Tale, terror or tragedy - maybe some of all three.

It was up in the Winds one warm August day spending a week on the west side. After a few days of fine hiking, and trying out some new fly fishing gear, with the real purpose of more good times with great friends, we were basically breathing in that pure air only found this close to the Divide. The two of us broke camp and planned a route to rejoin the other two who had set off the day before to take a look at Cathedral Peak and see what Lizard Head Peak looks like from this side. We had logged a Lizard Head Peak passage the year we took along a couple of Landers Llamas.

       The guys know that I digress, a lot . . . .

Anyway, I was about to swing my backpack up when I had a thought of retrieving my treking poles, that was it, I turned, went down with a audible snap, and I realized I had just screwed up the rest of the trip. During the following moments when I was apologizing profusely to my pal for messing up, and a few minutes of shock treatment so expertly applied by him, I realized that this was more than an arm knocked out of socket. At least, the broken bones of my forearm had not penetrated the skin. and I learned I have a higher level of pain tolerance than normal.

It also was a beautiful sunny day for the hike off the mountain, though there was that disappointment when those Missouri horsemen (who just happened by on their way down) refused to help out so we had to leave my pack against a boulder and headed out behind them. Also, I got a couple nice shots of the sheepherders that morning who were bringing their flocks down from the summer grazing higher up. One fun shot shows them grazing around the No Grazing sign along the trail. Nice flowers along the stream too, where we saw many of the trout we would not be catching on that trip.

Couple days up in Jackson got me some hardware in the arm and a ride back to central Wyoming to rejoin my buddies for the trip home.

That's the Tale, not much on Terror, the Tragedy - been a few years now and that was the last trip we took together.

                             ************************************

Make those trips and times with your friends as good as you can, because you will have their memories for the rest your lifetime to enjoy.
